2011: A Year in Review

To start off, some stats:

Total number of books read: 151

Total number of fantasy books reads: 52

Total number of sci-fi books read: 56

Total number of non fiction books read: 16

Total number of crime and thriller books read: 14

Total number of literary books read: 13

This represents about 20 books more than I read in 2010, which is pretty good. I’m aiming to hit 160 by the end of next year, a small challenge but one that I think I should be able to reach.

Number of 5 star books read: 10

Number of 4 star books read: 59

Number of 3 star books read: 80

Number of 2 star books read: 3

According to Goodreads, the longest book I read was The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.

My Top Ten for 2011:

1. 11 / 22 / 63

2. A Dance with Dragons

3. The Passage

4. The Night Circus

5. A Rising Thunder

6. Kushiel’s Mercy

7. Kushiel’s Justice

8. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

9. Stone's Fall

10. Ghost Story

I have a handful of the books I read in 2011 I will be reviewing over the next few weeks. First up will be The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of creating a blog revolving around my love for books of all genres for a couple of years now. I’ve started (and stalled) a couple of times, generally without sharing more than a handful of reviews or blog posts. This time, I am hoping I’ll be able to keep it together for a longer haul!

One of the reasons for that is to share my passion for books. I’ve broadened my reading in the past couple of years, branching out into non-fiction and more literary novels, but I’ve remained attached to my first love, which is genre fiction in all its forms. So you – whoever you may be – can expect to see a lot of reviews, comments and news revolving around fantasy, science fiction and horror.

I’ll start off in the next post with a year-review of 2011, which should give you an idea of the sorts of things I read.
